East Bay Vintners Alliance to host “Passport to the East Bay Wine Trail” Event on April 5th, 2008

Oakland, CA, March 6, 2008— The East Bay Vintners Alliance (EBVA) will host the 1st Annual “Passport to the East Bay Wine Trail” event on Saturday, April 5th, 2008, from 12:00-5:00 PM. The event provides Bay Area wine enthusiasts a unique opportunity to taste the world-class wines being made in their community. Many of the participating wineries are not regularly open to the public so in one day participants have the opportunity to visit with thirteen wineries. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door of any participating winery on the day of the event. Advance tickets may be purchased online at http://www.eastbayvintners.com . Admission includes tasting at all of the 13 participating wineries, a souvenir wine glass, tasty food pairings produced by the winery or in partnership with local restaurants and caterers, cellar tours with winemakers, and more!

The event will showcase 13 different wineries at 8 locations in Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley, and Alameda. The wineries participating are: Adams Point, Andrew Lane, Aubin Cellars, Dashe Cellars, Eno Wines, Irish Monkey, JC Cellars, Lost Canyon Winery, Periscope Cellars, Rosenblum Cellars, Tayerle Wines, Two Mile, and Urbano Cellars. Four of the wineries are custom crush wineries and will pour their wines at one of the other EBVA member winery locations. This one-day event is an excellent opportunity to visit 8 locations and taste wines from over 13 wineries within a 10-mile radius, who produce a diversity of wines to satisfy every wine lover—from the inexperienced but enthusiastic to the most sophisticated palate. The wine list will include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot noir, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne, and Tropical fruit wines.

In addition to increasing the public’s knowledge and appreciations of the urban winery, “We’d like to increase the foot traffic to the member wineries and tasting rooms. We have some gems right here in our backyard. An additional goal is to strengthen the bond between the EBVA wineries and the local culinary community.” says Jack States, President of the EBVA and co-owner of Lost Canyon Winery. He hopes that participants visit as many of the wineries as possible.

To highlight the hospitality of this relatively new wine area, each winery will either provide specific foods to pair with their wines or will be partnering with a local restaurant to showcase their wines and promote the restaurants where their wines are placed. Gourmet, locally prepared foods expertly paired with ultra-premium wines will greatly enhance the one-day passport wine tasting adventure. One of the restaurants participating is the newly opened Franklin Square Wine Bar in Downtown Oakland. The owner, Rick Mitchell, is looking forward to the event as a way to promote his wine bar that offers an “East Bay Wine Flight.” By pairing food and wine for this event the EBVA can promote two of the region’s most important cultural treasures.

The East Bay Vintners Alliance (EBVA) is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation organized under the California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law. The purpose of the EBVA is to promote increased awareness and the betterment of business practices among member wineries, and to increase awareness of wineries located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay viticultural area.

I am very interested in this event. I attended the EBVA event last year, and enjoyed it very much. My question, however, is will patrons need to drive to the 8 locations to taste wine or will there be a shuttle service?

I do not think drinking and driving is a safe thing.

    Thanks!

A group of us are interested in attending the Urban Wine Trails event on April 5. Do “Designated Drivers” get in free? We may have trouble getting drivers if they have to pay admission, even though they are not drinking (alcohol). And it’s unsafe for the rest of us to drink and drive.

Also, is there any “group discount” price? If so, how many people do we need in our group to get a price break?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Looking over your selection of wineries, I noticed that you do not give the location addresses. It would help me decide which winery to start with if I knew where they were.

Please provide addresses/locations so that I can plan my journey!
